Assistant Controller

An established construction services company is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its Finance department. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic and detail-oriented Finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to contribute to the financial success of a growing organization.

In this role, the Assistant Controller will oversee day-to-day divisional accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, project costing, compliance, and team leadership. Partnering with senior leadership and operational teams, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting financial performance, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving continuous improvement across the organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee day-to-day divisional operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger activities
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and review divisional financial statements, management reports and financial analyses
  • Monitor project costing, job profitability, work-in-progress reporting and contract billing activities
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting cash flow management, and financial planning initiatives
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations teams to support project financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors, financial institutions and advisors
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to accounting team members

What You Bring to the Team

  • CPA designation (required)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Experience within construction, contracting, project-based, or industrial environments is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and internal controls
  • Experience with project costing, contract billing, holdbacks, and construction accounting practices
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and accounting software/ERP systems
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude with a collaborative, team-first mindset

Role Snapshot

  • Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time | Onsite
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Salary: $95,000 – $125,000 (based on experience)
  • Reports To: Corporate Controller
