POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Assistant supports the development and promotion of communications activities or materials for departmental or organizational initiatives. Providing Administrative support to the Communications and Economic Development Department, and other Departments or Council as determined by the Manager, the Communications Assistant collaborates to enhance community awareness of WFN’s programs, services and initiatives by sharing approved information through WFN’s social media accounts or other communications platforms, as well as assisting in monitoring WFN’s online presence.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent with related post-secondary courses
  • Two (2) years administrative experience or other relevant administrative support experience
  • Experience working in an Indigenous or local Government is preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Hootsuite, and content management systems
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Acceptable Driver’s Abstract
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to WFN’s affairs.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  •  Provides administrative support and assistance to the Economic Development and Communications Department
  • Publishes information on WFN’s digital media platforms including website and social media
  • Supports the development of information materials, including social media posts, web articles, brochures, backgrounders, speaking notes and advertisements
  • Identifies opportunities to improve and enhance the wfn.ca website and strategic use of digital media
  • Assists in implementing strategic social media campaigns that meet WFN’s objectives and goals
  • Monitors communications efforts, tracks participation and engagement
  • Promotes and occasionally assists in organizing WFN events, conferences, workshops or programs
  • Processes and reconciles accounts payable vouchers and purchase order receipts for the Department in a timely manner
  • Schedules meetings and calendar invites, including venue or virtual links, and providing materials or equipment as necessary for the Department
  • Ensures WFN’s identity and brand standards are maintained including consistency and professionalism
  • Maintains and complies with program policies, procedures and reporting as required
  • Answers calls, returns voicemails and takes messages for the Department
  • Sets up meetings, picks up lunches and escorts guests as needed for Department meetings
  • Takes photos at various events as needed
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Manager of Communications
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedurs

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Cultural competency, and knowledge of Indigenous practices
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience with web content management systems and social media platforms
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships, work in complex and sensitive situations, work independently and within a team environment, and manage competing priorities
  • Writing and editing skills
  • Experience with desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite), graphic design, photography, web design, and publication production/printing is considered an asset
  • Task-orientated, strong attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment with multiple priorities

Minimum salary for this position is $43,469
