Reporting to the Child Care Manager, the Child Care Supervisor is a key member of the Child Care team, and will:

  • Actively interact with children ages 5-12 as a play partner.
  • Support optimal developmental growth through play based educational programming, including interactive play, literacy, mathematics, science, building, arts and crafts, drama, games, team building, community out trips, swimming, daily physical activity, outdoor play, and sports.
  • Responsible for direct leading and supervising of staff and children, including supervision, safety, program planning, and instilling the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • Plan, implement, lead, and evaluate specific expectations of curriculum to ensure YMCA A Place to Connect curriculum is maintained
  • Guide, coach, and provide feedback to leaders during program times
  • Build healthy relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Support and deal with sensitive member family experiences and situations, children's behaviors
  • Actively ensure licensing standards and safety standards are maintained for all child care settings and outings
  • Participates in and promotes YMCA of Okanagan community initiatives and philanthropy such as; Strong Kids Campaign, Healthy Kids Day, etc.

We'd love to hear from people with:
  • Valid class 4 driver's license (or willingness to obtain)
  • Must be 19 years of age (as per Provincial licensing standards)
  • Completed Responsible Adult Certification - 20 hours of professional education in Child Development, health, nutrition, safety, and/or guidance.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR level B or C
  • 1-year experience working with children
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel

  • Service Orientated: Deliberately identifies and creates opportunities to enhance each and every individual's YMCA experience. Creates action plans to resolve any service gap areas.
  • Relationship Building and Collaboration: Builds positive interactions, listens attentively, and communicates effectively to create an open communication environment. Share information, best practices, and resources with colleagues.

Position details:
  • 2 positions available
  • 30-40 hours per week
  • Starting September 2022
