We are seeking a Battery Engineer to join our lean and agile team in our Burnaby facility. This role reports to the Manager, High-Voltage Battery and is responsible for to design, innovate, and assist in the production of unique electric vehicles that provide a safe, reliable, and exceptional driving experience to the consumer.

Engineering Department - Vehicle Design and Battery Testing
  • Use a variety of cell and battery pack models, fleet data, and laboratory test data to create state-of-the-art feedback control and estimation algorithms for high voltage battery packs.
  • Work on projects from cell capacity, impedance, energy, and degradation estimation to diagnostics of sensors, cells and battery pack components.
  • Work cross-functionally with within the company, battery safety organizations and vendors.
  • Design and execute DOEs that are highly impactful and resource-efficient.
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving the cell life model through automated testing, new features development, and integration with systems model.
  • Work with other engineers and scientists to understand trends in knowledge gaps and push forward relevant projects.
  • Develop and fabricate functional prototypes and test methods to vet out new concepts.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to develop parts.
  • Complete design cycles from concepts to fully validated production designs.

Engineering Department - Specifications
  • Ensure product conforms to all market regulations, and identifies that regulations are subject to constant change.
  • Orchestrates and executes proof of concept validation tests to ensure vehicle specifications are met.
  • Adjusts to rapidly changing industry regulations and brings an agile outlook to designing vehicles that meet those regulations.

General Requirements
  • Collaborates with key suppliers and supports overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events.
  • Understands and effectively uses company systems, such as ERP inventory management.
  • Collaborates with other engineering functions to conduct trend analysis and complete company projects.

Other Duties
  • Other duties as required and assigned by management.


Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering field is required.
  • Experience with automotive battery design is considered an asset
  • Experience with modeling lithium ion cells and simulating models of electrical systems.
  • Basic experience, understanding, and intuition for the electrochemical physics of lithium ion cells.
  • Proficiency with NX 11.0 and simulation tools like Matlab or Simulink would be an asset.
  • Team player - expresses desire to work in teams and values perspective of other team members.
  • Computer literacy - including using company specific systems as required.
  • Creative and innovative mindset towards developing procedures.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Abides by Health & Safety standards (organizational and vehicle).
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
