Conductors work as members of two- or three-person train crewsand perform duties associated with the movement of trains, rail cars, andlocomotives in rail yards and on the road. They coordinate the assemblyof trains and execute any groundwork outside the locomotive cab while in theyard or en-route (ex: operating track switches, picking up rail cars, makingemergency repairs, etc.).
To those that qualify, CN is prepared to offer the following toconductors that agree to work and relocate to Smithers, BC for a period of no lessthan three years.
a. A newly hired employee can be provided with accommodation fora period of up to three (3) months in a CN approved hotel or CN Bunkhouse.
b. Upon completion of their probationary period, the employeewill be entitled to a $5,000.00 allowance to assist with expenses to their newlocation.
c. Employees who relocate under the provisions of this letterwill be required to maintain their permanent clearance(s) at their assignedlocation for a period of three (3) calendar years from the date they commenceworking at such location.
d. Employees who relocate under the provisions of this letterwill be entitled to special lump sum allowances as follows:
i. After the completion of 365days from the date they commenced working at the new location the employee willreceive 7% of their earnings (working tours) paid as a lump sum. Earnings willbe calculated from the date they commenced working up to and including the 365th day.
ii. After the completionof 730 days from the date they commenced working at the new location theemployee will receive 10% of their earnings (working tours) paid as a lump sum.Earnings will be calculated from the 366th day, up to and including the 730thday.
iii. After the completionof 1095 days from the date they commenced working at the new location theemployee will receive 20% of their earnings (working tours) paid as a lump sum.Earnings will be calculated from the 731st day, up to and including the 1095thday.
In the event an employee is unable to hold work at theirassigned location, he/she will be entitled to take a temporary clearance toanother location.
Candidate will be considered for the relocation incentive if they arerelocating from certain locations, which is up to the discretion of theCompany.
