Our Techstack
  • We're fans of polyglot persistence and use what makes the most sense for scaling. We have over 50 servers with 20+ services and multiple co-located data centers to sync with tons of terabytes of data.
  • Java and Go
  • Containerization and Orchestration tools such as Docker, Docker Swarm (and soon, Kubernetes)
  • Persistence and message passing governed by ElasticSearch, Redis, MySQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ
  • We use these tools to power and automate our QA process: Selenium, Swagger, Jenkins, Postman, SOAP UI, ReadyAPI, Ghost Inspector and, TestRails
  • Code quality and platform security are checked using SonarQube and Burp test suite
  • For communication and project management we use Jira, Confluence, Slack, Google Workspace, Github, etc.
  • To automate our deploy pipeline: Ansible, Jenkins
  • For monitoring, we use ELK & TIG Stack, Sentry

What our Directors of Engineering do:
  • Together with our Chief Technology Officer and other internal stakeholders (such as our Director of Product and the Website Archiving PM), translate the vision for your assigned products (in this case, Website Archiving) into a technical roadmap and lead the engineering team, which consists of developers, QA and DevOps/infrastructure, to delivery from architecture to testing.
  • Promote a Values-led working environment that is safe, respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive through role-modeling, accountability and support.
  • Collaborate with HR and your Team Leads/Managers to recruit, retain, reward, engage and develop your people through practical talent acquisition, talent management, and talent development initiatives (including workforce planning, onboarding, career pathing, coaching, performance reviews, and more).
  • Enable your team members to achieve and exceed their goals through motivating successful habits, coaching for high performance, and instilling accountability.
    • Optimize the teams' principles, policies, standards, strategies, and tools.
    • Upholding Agile methodology principles within the team for effective and efficient results.
    • Proactively identifying opportunities to innovate the product, technologies, systems, and processes.
  • Support a culture of security awareness, safeguarding, and compliance with our policies and best practices to maintain Pagefreezer's customers' trust, including serving as a member of the Security Council.
    • Accountable for security vulnerability, risk, and incident identification, evaluation, management and resolution in your assigned technical areas.
    • Provide input on relevant security policies, procedures, and training and advocate for their success in your team.
    • Implement and promote security best practices among engineers, based on directions set by the Information Security team and Security Council.
  • Engaging your internal and external stakeholders in initiatives, decisions, and results and acting as an expert consultant when needed.
    • Preparing and managing your budget with Finance and CTO, including recommending apps or tools.
    • Advocating for the Engineering department, your team, and peers in various avenues.
    • Keeping up with engineering trends, best practices, networks, and issues so that Pagefreezer stays up to date and competitive.

  • Demonstrated success with innovation and new product development while maintaining a V1 product with live customers.
    • You've built and deployed solutions that cater to both on-premise Linux and Cloud environments.
    • You're very familiar with infra/devops tools and increasing QA coverage, for example, in addition to having experience as a software engineer in the last 5-10 years.
  • In the last 5+ years, you've hired, managed, developed, and scaled multifunctional technical teams in a comparable role (specifically, software development and engineering, infrastructure/DevOps, QA).
    • Agile and Scrum are a big part of how you organize and enable teams (you're Scrum Master Certified), and you use other tools or frameworks to keep yourself and your teams very organized, efficient, and productive.
  • Passion and knack for people management and development in a diverse, Values-led, adaptable, and personal way
    • High emotional intelligence. You love to build and maintain solid, empathy-based relationships, share knowledge and insights transparently and proactively, negotiate and set expectations clearly, inspire confidence and trust, and connect motivations to vision.
    • Facilitate collaboration and brainstorming as a leader, ensuring participants feel included and heard
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills in English to both technical and non-technical audiences of all kinds
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred, with bonus points for a Masters or PhD
  • Able to work full time and authorized to work in Canada (anywhere in Canada works for us as long as you're able to overlap 4+ hours with Vancouver and willing to support a team in the EU)
