Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Engineer with strong mineral processing and metallurgical experience to join our team. In this role, you will support and lead process engineering activities on mining and mineral processing projects while mentoring engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will contribute to technical studies including Preliminary Economic Assessments (PEA), Prefeasibility Studies (PFS), and Feasibility Studies (FS) and may act as or support a Qualified Person (QP) responsible for technical disclosure related to metallurgical testing, recovery methods, and process plant design under NI 43-101.
You will play a key role in delivering technically sound, compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions while maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership
- Lead and mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Monitoring and control engineering deliverables to stay on budget and schedule.
- Support process engineers on major projects, ensuring quality deliverables within budget.
- Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
2. Technical Expertise
- Handle all technical aspects of process engineering: developing process design criteria, engineering calculations, simulations PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing/specifications, and report writing.
- Participate in HAZID/HAZOP reviews.
- Review and confirm process deliverables for accuracy and compliance with codes, standards, and specifications.
- Utilize industry-standard hydraulic assessment tools and dynamic simulations (an asset).
- Stay updated on industry advancements and integrate best practices into projects.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of technical reports and supporting documentation for mining projects in accordance with NI 43-101.
- Provide subject matter expertise on metallurgical testing, recovery methods, process design, and plant performance assumptions.
- Ensure technical disclosures are supported by appropriate engineering analysis and documentation.
- Act as or support a Qualified Person (QP) responsible for signing off on relevant sections of technical reports within their area of expertise.
- Ensure all engineering work aligns with regulatory disclosure standards and industry best practices.
3. Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate effectively with project management and engineering disciplines to achieve project objectives.
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external partners to define project requirements.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and project updates for diverse audiences.
5. Compliance and Standards
- Ensure project compliance with all relevant systems, standards, and procedures.
- Implement project protocols, including change management.
- Maintain a focus on health, safety, and environmental standards within project designs
- Serve as the Responsible Member by understanding and ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements set forth by professional associations
6. Strategic Contributions
- Develop hours estimates, staffing plans, schedules, earned value calculations, and process progress reports.
- Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and process optimization.
- Support business development initiatives by participating in setting organizational goals and aligning project strategies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field from a recognized institution.
- Professional Registration: Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada
- Experience: 10-15 years of relevant technical and leadership experience.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Experience with dynamic simulations (an asset).
- Industry Knowledge:
- Experience with technologies such Ore sorting, Crushing, Screening, Material handling, Grinding, flotation, leaching, thickening and tailings disposal.
- Knowledge of process/technology scale-up from lab to commercial scale.
- Familiarity with technical report preparation and regulatory disclosure requirements for mining projects
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with cross-functional teams across North America and Asia.
- Project Delivery: Experience in delivering major projects (up to $200MM TIC).
- Travel: Available to travel to customer sites and all SDE regional offices as required.
