Overview

Are you a PhD interested in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, automated reasoning, robotics, or quantum technologies? We are looking for skilled scientists capable of putting theory into practice through experimentation and invention, leveraging science techniques and implementing systems to work on massive datasets in an effort to tackle never before solved problems.

A successful candidate will be a self starter comfortable with ambiguity, have strong attention to detail, and be able to work in a fast paced, ever changing environment. As an Applied Scientist, you will own the design and development of end to end systems, create technical roadmaps, and drive production level projects that support Amazon Science. You will work closely with Amazon scientists and other science interns to develop solutions and deploy them into production, and collaborate with diverse cross functional teams to solve complex business problems.

Responsibilities
    • Design and develop end to end systems for large scale scientific projects.
    • Create technical roadmaps and drive production level projects.
    • Collaborate with Amazon scientists, interns, and cross functional teams to deploy solutions into production.
    • Work closely with diverse cross functional teams to solve complex business problems.
Basic Qualifications
    • 3+ years of building models for business application experience.
    • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience.
    • Experience in patents or publications at top tier peer reviewed conferences or journals.
    • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
    • Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high performance computing.
    • Depth of knowledge in specialty areas such as LLM, RAG, multi modal LLMs, recommender systems.
Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience using Unix/Linux.
    • Experience in professional software development.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
