Volunteer Governance Role
Volunteer Victoria is seeking a community-minded financial leader to serve as Treasurer on our Board of Directors.
This is an opportunity to help guide the long-term sustainability of an organization that strengthens volunteerism and builds connected communities across Greater Victoria.
We are not looking for someone to "do the books."
We are looking for someone to help steward the organization's financial future.
The Treasurer is a voting member of the Board and provides governance-level financial oversight. Working alongside the Executive Director and Board colleagues, the Treasurer helps ensure financial integrity, transparency, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
This is a strategic leadership role focused on oversight, risk awareness, and informed decision-making - not day-to-day accounting.
What You'll Contribute- Review and interpret monthly financial statements
- Provide clear financial insight to fellow Board members
- Support development and oversight of the annual budget
- Monitor financial sustainability, reserves, and risk
- Strengthen long-term financial planning and revenue diversification
- Participating in the Executive Committee
You are someone who:
- Is comfortable reading and interpreting financial statements
- Understands financial controls and risk management
- Thinks strategically about sustainability
- Communicates financial information in plain language
- Values accountability, transparency, and strong governance
Experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or financial management is preferred. Nonprofit experience.
A CPA designation is welcome but not necessary.
Time Commitment- Board meetings monthly
- Executive Committee meetings monthly
- Preparation time to review financial materials
Estimated commitment: approximately 4-8 hours per month.
Board term length is as outlined in our bylaws, 2 years, June
