
Structural Lead Engineer - Mining and Metals
Job Description
The Lead Structural Engineer will provide essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and direction for structural, civil, and geotechnical design projects. The role oversees a specific area, acting as a representative to ensure technical accuracy and quality across all project phases.
- Perform CSA design development across project phases (conceptual, front end, detail engineering, integration of new facilities, and small multidisciplinary projects).
- Lead structural, civil and geotechnical design and write contractor scope of works.
- Supervise, plan, and organize work, including schedules, man hour estimates, and manpower forecasts.
- Lead and coordinate the civil structural design team.
- Communicate and align with clients, vendors, and other disciplines.
- Supervise and mentor junior designers and engineers.
- Promote and support value improvement initiatives and continuous performance improvement.
- Participate in design reviews and external reviews within the project team.
- Work independently, lead small teams, and control work sharing with foreign offices.
- Ensure quality and technical integrity of design documents.
- Proactively report project status and constraints.
- Prepare and check man hour and material estimates, and monthly budget reports for all engineering efforts.
- Perform technical bid evaluations of supplier bids.
- Develop and review estimates, schedules, progress reports, and manpower forecasts.
- Establish and monitor material key quantities, and provide analysis and forecasts.
- Develop and review specifications and design criteria.
- Participate in structural procurement, permitting and subcontracting activities.
- Perform calculations and solve complex engineering problems.
- Mentor through training seminars and performance appraisal.
- Analyze and make independent recommendations for problem solutions.
- Demonstrate strong technical interests in structural engineering.
- Capable of undertaking structural engineering work related to resource project development and construction.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Accredited four year degree in engineering (or equivalent) and at least 16 years of work related experience; professional certification or registration where applicable.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in mining and metal projects.
- Minimum 5 years as Lead Engineer in a mining and metal project.
- Proven record in technical leadership roles.
- Experience in discipline project execution, interdisciplinary coordination, and revamp projects.
- Excellent communication skills with management, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Ability to independently complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Experience in revamp projects (asset renewal) is an asset.
- Additional interdisciplinary coordination experience.
- Salary: $138,000 - $256,000, based on experience.
